Honiton seconds, like the 1st XV, also travelled down to Cornwall for their longest away fixture against the Waybridge Camels, writes Mike Huskins.

Given the distance, selection was always going to be an issue to get a strong side and given the fact the Camel play a division higher than Honiton it was always going to be a tough fixture.

The home side boasted a heavy pack and had a good nine/ten combination and for the first half it would be fair to say they dominated procedures and at the break they were 32 to the good with Honiton working hard just to hang on.

Honiton dug deep in the second period and from a good kick and chase from Joe Keep out of defence he managed to gather his grubber and run in under the post to score the Lacemen’s first score. This spurred Honiton on and they got back into the game and following some hard work from the forwards Finn Parrott crossed for Honiton’s second and Phil Bennett converted. The home side still had the upper hand though and scored three tries. The final score was a 52-12 loss.

Louie Lane and Austin Elliot were praised for their hard work throughout, but the Lacemen Man of the Match award went to Phil Bennett who had an all-round good performance.
