Windwhistle Motor Club, Chard, held their annual single venue car trial at Bovey Down near Seaton, writes Paul Bagnall.

The meeting saw 42 competitors in cars ranging from specially built trial cars to variously modified road cars, entered from around South Somerset and East Devon. The well-organised event was run in dry and sunny conditions.

The drivers tackled 28 sections of dirt tracks up steep hills marked out with numbered stakes, the aim being to get the least number of penalties by getting the furthest up the hills.

The cars are split up into various classes depending on engine size and modifications. This year the overall winner was Jason Flay from Branscombe in his Morris Trial Master. Various class winners were also presented with awards on the day.

This event has been run each spring for several years. The event was also open to non-members of Windwhistle Motor Club who were able to take out a temporary membership for the day.

The club extends it thanks to Sidvale Carnival Club who supplied the catering on the day.

Windwhistle Motor Club also holds other events throughout the year including summer field events on the field at the side of the Windwhistle Inn at Cricket St Thomas. These are open to those members and temporary members who would like to test their driving skills on grass, these are held on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer.
