When the draw takes place to decide playing partners for the monthly Chivers Goblets competition, there is plenty of interest in ‘who plays with who’, writes Liz Rogers.

Some pairings work very well, as was the case this week, when the winners this month, with 37 points, were Elizabeth Ward and David Hughes.

In second place, with 32 points and on countback to the last three holes, were Penny Blackburn and John Northover.

Just losing out, also with 32 points, were Heather Clarke and Phil Wall.

This was the last week for organisers Sue and Paul Ritchie and a vote of thanks was given.

On Sunday afternoon there was a mixed friendly match played at home against Sidmouth.

Captain of the day was the club president Alec Gosling who declared a decisive win for Honiton, who beat Sidmouth 6-1.

The Sidmouth mixed match captain then said how enjoyable these matches are and thanked the caterers for a delicious meal.

The Bradshaw Bogey was the competition for the ladies. This type of meeting involves playing against the course.

You either win, lose or draw each hole and, on a fine, sunny day, Lesley Farley stormed home with a very impressive score of plus three.

Chris Luttman took the runners-up spot with a score of plus one.

The 9-hole stableford was won by Catherine Hunt with 12 points.

The Honiton Seniors Open competition saw a tremendous turnout of 142 visitors, writes Liz Rogers.

The format was four ball better ball and that large number of visitors were drawn fro no fewer than 23 different clubs in Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset, all of whom enjoyed the very favourable playing conditions.

There was a superb prize table and excellent food from the caterers.

The club captains’ charity ‘The Baton’ was well supported by the raffle and the popular captain’s charity hut on the 11th tee supplied welcome refreshments to the players.
