This has been a bumper year for bluebells and they were at their peak for the Axe Valley Pedallers’ annual bluebell ride, writes Robert Watson.

The weather was perfect and over 20 riders took to the wooded hills between Musbury and Uplyme, passing quaintly named Cathole, to see a profusion of colour before sweeping down to the sea front at Lyme Regis. After a breather, Ben ‘Buster’ Dowell took the group back up the river valley and along the old Roman Road to Uplyme, using his local knowledge to navigate through the narrow lanes and under the viaduct to emerge at Rousdon. Then it was all downhill to Axmouth and along the Axe estuary to return to sea level at the Tram Station in Seaton. For details of AVP rides see axevalleypedallers.org.uk.
