The bumper holiday crowd at Flete Park's Modbury Harriers point to point were treated to great pony racing ahead of the main meeting. A full field of 10 riders went to post for the 138 race and the first four home were the same three as at the previous Dartmoor meeting albeit in even closer order. The rain during the week had softened the going and the times of both races were slightly slower than the previous meeting. Bronze Lawrance (Hannah Welch) and Ravara Super Ted (Pippa Glanville) broke clear of the field and enjoyed a tremendous tussle down past the open ditch. Talponciau Perfect Print (Barnaby Treneer) had a great late run and the three ponies battled hard on the home straight. Bronze Lawrance got home first, with TPP second and Ravara Super Ted third with Bejowans Bouquet (Heidi Lewis), who hates the muddy stretches, close up in fourth. First time riders Donald Comer Calder and Katie Northmore thoroughly enjoyed their race as did Anna Wotton on Fudge who had made her debut at the previous Dartmoor meeting.Bryony Frost is a talented rider who won the area points championship last season on Jack Sparrow. She was seen at her best on her new five-year-old 148 pony Tarka, who had had her first race outing just a fortnight before when the mare looked novicey. The pair had been second at Axe Vale since then and this time Bryony made a determined push for home two furlongs out. Despite a challenge from Ivory Girl (Henry Armstrong), held on to win.Whinney Widget (Josie Gordon) ran on well in third with Flareon ( Chloe Grove) fourth.
