LEWIS BURGES,17, a sixth former at Axe Valley Community College, has been selected to represent Devon, at the English Schools Athletic Championships held at Gateshead.
He secured a place after a win in the long jump at the South West schools championship. He was unable to compete last year due to injury, is achieving some great jump now and aims to reach over seven metres.
Burges will also compete in the senior boys’ relay team. Along with 35 selected athletes from all over Devon, he will compete on July 6 and 7 with Sky Sports live TV coverage on the events. Burges hopes to gain sponsorship to support expenses of competitions further afield from his local club.
