Captain’s Day Spider success for Moyra Griffin

In the LOFTL, Ottery ladies had a convincing 56-18 win at Okehampton where the top Ottery rink was the one of Dot Luff, Margaret Bright and skip Gail Hawke, who won 38-10, writes Michael Smith.
In what turned out to be a very competitive friendly match at Hemyock, Ottery, although losing three rinks to one, managed to snatch an eight shot victory with a 79-71 final score, thanks in no small way to a fine 25-11 win for Eric Richardson, Sheila Lapping, Maggie Beighton and skip Brian Baker.
To end the week, club captain Terri Ward hosted Captains Day and some 50 members enjoyed a fun afternoons bowling, wearing anything ‘bright’ to brighten up an already fine sunny day.
Proceedings got under way with the much loved ‘Spider Competition’, this years was a little different with members bowling to a real spider !
Well, it was actually a spider made by club member Moyra Griffin, who strangely enough actually won it! You can draw your own conclusions from that! Moyra was presented with a bottle of whiskey kindly donated by men’s captain Peter Jones.
After the match more members joined the players for a wonderful meal provided through the hard work of Terri and John Ward and Ann and Terry House, a huge thanks to them!
Money raised on the day goes to Terri’s chosen charity, this year a magnificent £684 was reached which will go to the ‘Prostate Cancer Research Centre’.
