Honiton held its annual fund-raising ‘roll up’ for the benefit of Honiton’s Carnival on Saturday.

It’s a straightforward Stableford event with an amount of the proceeds given to the carnival’s charity.

The event is growing in interest as a fun day’s golf and members were honoured to have the carnival queen present to receive the cheque. This year’s queen is delightful Chloe Broom who is ably assisted by her sister Kayleigh acting as her princess. The game was won by Dave Carnall with 38pts but, as ever, it’s all about supporting the carnival.

Monthly Medal - It’s getting impossible to predict whether the course will be open, or even playable for Sunday games so all credit to the greenstaff for getting games through on time.

However the rough is so wet and clawing that anything straying off line meant at least a shot dropped. The winners on the day though played par golf. In Div 1 Keith Lloyd’s nett 69 topped the rankings ahead of Dean Bonetta and Martin Hughes who both scored 72. Div 2 had Mark Fowler 69 first ahead of Dave Lee 70 and Jonno Burden 72.

Tuesday Mixed - Rye Foursomes was the format for this week’s Mixed Competition which started in good weather but deteriorated during the afternoon. However, the rain did not stop the winners having a wonderful score - Linda McLaughlin and Andy Sharland scored 40pts.

In second place were Jan Dickinson and Allan Seager with 36pts. Third were Linda and John Northover with 29pts. The organisers this month are Ro and Chris Poole and lady captain Jackie Seager presented the prizes.

Seniors’ Section - The course was heavy after overnight rain but the 62 Seniors who competed enjoyed a fun day. They were only allowed three clubs and a putter but many scored just as well as they normally do with a bag full!

It was a Stableford format with the best score coming from Ron Cooper heading division two with 36 points, followed by Bob Milton, George Smith, Bob Underwood and Robert Canterbury.

The best score in division one came from Angus Falconer with 35 points. Andy Sharland was runner-up followed by Bob Cleal, Phillip Donne-Davis and Fred Utting.
