There’s been plenty of action on the Honiton course over the past week, writes Andy Wagner.

A men’s four-ball, better-ball stableford was played on Sunday and it saw victory for the pairing of Dave Chaffey and Neil Pulman with 40 points.

Second place went to Ian Banfield and Martin Pearce with 38 and they edged out Steve Key and club captain Stewart Slater on countback after they too finished with 38 points. Fourth palace was taken by Ed Reece and Ian Atyeo with 37 points.

In the men’s Winter League the semi-finals were played and it saw victory on the 21st hole for Jake Phillips and his partner Andrew Wall. They will now contest the final against the winners of the other semi final, Jim Wallis and Bob Cleal.

The latest Tuesday Mixed competition was played in spring-like weather. Twenty members participated and the format was four clubs and a putter stableford.

The winners, with an excellent score considering the restricted choice of club, were Stephanie Barnes and Brian Morrison with 41 points. Sue Ritchie and Phil Wall (39) took second and lady captain Olwen Eaton together with seniors’ captain Mike Watts, took third place with 37 points.

News from the Honiton Junior Section and Ben Phillips, at the tender age of 14, made his debut for the Devon boys under-16 team in a match against Devon girls played at Stover. Young Phillips won his match and played his part in an overall triumph for the boys.
