Chard RFC held their players and awards dinner at the clubhouse last Friday evening .

The speakers were Chard director of rugby Steve Broome and Mike Penn, Rugby enthusiast and the curator of Haynes Motor Museum.

The 1st XV Player of the Year award was presented to flanker Ryan Helliar and scrum half Ben Johnson picked up the Most Improved Player award. Number eight Rob Burrell was named Coaches’ Player of the Year – he also bagged the trophy for scoring the most tries. Prop Luke Aplin picked up the award for Players’ Player of the Year. There was also a special award made to lock forward Alan Henley who is retiring after a decade of service to the club cause.

In terms of 2nd XV honours the Player of the Year trophy was handed over to Jack Elliot with Billy Biss bagging both the Players’ Player of the Year and the most tries scored trophies. Colin Moon was named the Most Improved 2nd XV player.

Matt Bowditch was named Clubman of the Year after a terrific twelve months of tireless work on the club’s behalf as well as his rapid rise up the referee’s ladder.
