Chard 27, Wadebridge 26 With the 1st XV squad decimated by injuries Chard virtually fielded a development side which contained only four players who had played in the senior side this season, writes Glyn Hughes.

Wadebridge were several players short of their normal side too but the large crowd were treated to a terrific game which Chard edged despite scoring one try less than their visitors. A perfect performance from the boot of fly half George Elliot who converted all three tries as well as kicking two penalty goals ensured that Chard got home by the narrowest of margins.

The Chard tries were scored by flanker Bryn Mays. Full back Ben Stead and centre Joe Massey. Wadebridge replied with tries from Jack Scott, Reece Bright, Jacob Carby and Harry Baker. Full back James Grubb kicked three conversions.

This was great experience for many of the Chard youngsters who did the running for the two pensioners in the side who no doubt would have got good odds at the beginning of the season if they had suggested that they would again play at 1st xv level!

This was Chards 20th win of the season and they will now face Towcestrians in the play off match next Saturday at Towcester in Northamptonshire (3pm). A bus will be leaving the club at 9am next Saturday morning and supporters wishing to take advantage of this should inform team manager Tim Glenn on 01460 65548 as soon as possible.

The winners of this game will go into National Three South West next season
