A squad of 33 swimmers represented Chard Swimming Club in a successful Round 2 of the Western Division Arena Swimming League held in Weston Super Mare, writes Hannah Pullinger.

Chard led straight from the start and maintained a comfortable lead over the other five teams competing, gaining forty-three top three positions in the fifty events, with an outstanding seventeen first positions.

This performance enabled them to finish first overall, forty six points clear of the rest of the field.

Individual top three places, including eleven first places, went to the following swimmers.

In the Open section: Luke van den Barselaar, 17, third in the 100m individual medley and 100m freestyle, Hannah Pullinger, 17, third in the 100m individual medley and 100m freestyle, Jake Hallam, 17, first in the 100m breaststroke and second in the 100m butterfly, Ben Fowler, 17, first in the 100m backstroke, Tessa Down, 16, first

in the 100m breaststroke, Melissa Hanson, 15, second in the girls 100m backstroke.

15/under section: Oliver Bilbie, 15, first in the 100m backstroke and third 100m freestyle, Jamie Pullinger, 15, first in the 100m breaststroke, Iain Ross, 14, third in the 100m butterfly, Hope Horsfield, third in the girls 100m Freestyle.

13/under section: Bea Brett, 13, first in the 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke, Henry Taswell, 12, first in the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly, Leo Kindred, 12, third in the 50m breaststroke, Ben Greenslade, 13, third in the 50m freestyle.

11/under section: Xanthe Dyer, 11, first in the 50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly, Daisy Brett, 11, second in the 50m backstroke, Joss Copeman, 11, second in the 50m freestyle 50m butterfly, Baylei Callow, 11, second in the 50m freestyle, Louis Rood, 10, third in the 50m backstroke and Oli Bright, 11, third in the breaststroke.

The relay teams also showed some determined swimming, with fifteen top positions including six first places going to the boys open freestyle team of Luke van den Barselaar, Jake Hallam, Ben Fowler, Joe Spurway, Oli Bilbie and Paul Harrison, the boys 15/under freestyle and medley team of Jamie Pullinger, Oli Bilbie, Lewis Pearson, Paul Harrison and Iain Ross, the girls 11/under freestyle and medley team of Daisy Brett, Megan Herbert, Xanthe Dyer, Baylei Callow and Holly Dickinson, and the boys 11/under freestyle team of Louis Rood, Jimmy Brett, Oli Bright and Joss Copeman .

Congratulations to all the swimmers for another great performance, and a big thank you to all the Club coaches, officials, team managers, and time-keepers and all who helped to make the event a success.

Chard now look forward to another strong performance in the final round in December when they will be hoping to secure enough points for promotion.
