Beckie Rutherford, 15, and Jack Fish, 16, of Chard and District Swimming Club participated in the ASA South West Region Championships at Hutton Moor.

Beckie Rutherford, 15, and Jack Fish, 16, of Chard and District Swimming Club participated in the ASA South West Region Championships at Hutton Moor.

Beckie achieved her SWRQT in both the 50m backstroke 33-75 and 100m backstroke 1-13-50.

On the same day, other squad members travelled to the third Tiverton Sparkler Open Meet.

Jake Hallam and Luke van den Barselaar, 13, achieved South West Regional Qualifying Times. Jake in the 100m butterfly 1-06-95 (a new 14 yrs & under Club Record) and Luke in 100m backstroke 1-07-09.

Top three positions were achieved by: Oliver Bilbie, 11, (1st) in the 50m freestyle and 50m Backstroke, (3rd) in the 200m freestyle.

Jamie Pullinger, 11, (1st) in the 200m freestyle and 200m backstroke, (2nd) in the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke, (3rd) in the 50m butterfly. Abigail Dare, 12, (1st) in the 200m individual medley and 200m backstroke, (2nd) 100m backstroke, (3rd) 100m butterfly.

Lauren Harrison, 12, (3rd) in the 100m freestyle and 200m freestyle. Jake Hallam, 13, (1st) in the 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 100m breaststroke and 200m individual medley.

Luke van den Barselaar, 13, (1st) in the 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke. Hannah Pullinger, 13, (1st) in the 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke, (2nd) 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke. Ben Fowler 13 (2nd) 100m backstroke, (3rd) 100m freestyle. James Rutherford, 15, (3rd) in the 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

Overall, there were six new meet best times (mbt) conquered by some local swimmers. Oliver Bilbie, 11, with mbts in the 50m backstroke: 36-73 and 50m Freestyle: 33-19, Jake Hallam, 13, in the 200m individual medley: 2-32-54 and 100m butterfly 1-06-95; Luke van den Barselaar, 13, in the 100m backstroke 1-07-09, and Abigail Dare, 12, in the 200m Individual Medley 2-47-08.

Other swimmers participating were: Lewis Pearson, Jay Kindred, Marsha Emery, Elsie Emery, and Jenna Emery.

Hannah Pullinger, 13, was awarded the Chard and District Swimming Club Swimmer of the Month title for October.

She was selected because she swam for the county at the recent British Gas Championships held at Sheffield.
