The past week was certainly as winning one for Chardstock bowlers, writes Vaughan Fletcher.

In the Exeter and District Over-60s League, Chardstock B enjoyed back-to-back wins. They first travelled out to Okehampton C where they won 36-29 thanks to a 19-11 success for G Bodily, B Howard and T Dredge. The other rink of J Keats, N Barron and D Eldredge went down by a single shot, 17-18.

The very next day the B team hosted Chagford, who they 42-24. There was a big 27-6 success for the rink of G Bodily, B Howard and T Dredge, while the other rink, comprising of A Badley, N Barron and D Eldridge suffered a narrow three shot defeat, 15-18.

Continuing the good news with regard to the Over-60s League results, Chardstock A enjoyed a 10 shot win at Dunkeswell where rink wins for M Rogers, J Rolph and M Toms (18-10), and K Wakelin, M Copp and N Denslow (15-13) saw the team to an overall 33-23 win.

Success was not confined to league bowls for the Chardstock ladies travelled to South Petherton ladies and returned with a 27-26 win. In this match M Davenport, J Porter, C Bradford and A Sebright went down 16-12, but a 15-10 win for V Barron, P Baldwin, R Pratt and S Jeffery, saw Chardstock to the single shot overall victory.

A visit from Bridport resulted in a 70-59 Chardstock success. Of the four rinks played two were won and two were lost. J Currie, V Fletcher and S Jeffery won 20-7 and there was an 18-14 victory for N Mugridge, C Bradford and S Hatcliffe. A Badley, G Bodily and D Hatcliffe went down 21-18 and the rink of V Barron, N Barron and J Rolph, went down 17-14.

The winning feeling continued with a 65-47 success at Uffculme where there three rink wins and a narrow reversal in the fourth. N Mugridge, Adam Dredge and T Dredge won 18-9 while Jeanette Porter, V Fletcher and John Porter, won 15-12 and the rink of P Baldwin, R Pratt and J Rolph won 20-13. The narrow defeat befell the rink of J Pratt, G Bodily and Ann Dredge, who were edged out 13-12.

The lone defeat in the period was a 67-57 home defeat to Broadclyst in a match that saw the four rinks shared. There was a 17-6 win for P Baldwin, D Eldridge and S Jeffery and a 16-12 success for P Waddington, B Howard and J Rolph. The defeats were, 30-12 for J Currie, C Bradford and S Hatcliffe and 19-12 for the rink of A Callagan, A Sebright and D Hatcliffe.
