Each year the Honiton seniors play a medal competition for the Seniors Masters Championship, writes Andy Wagner.

The competitors have all qualified by winning prizes in the previous year and the winner receives a green club sweater embroidered with his title.

It is played along with a normal qualifier. No one in division one beat the standard scratch of 70, but it was equalled by Peter Clarke.

John Dickinson, last year’s winner, scored 71, separated only on count back from Andy Sharland, John Fleetwood and club captain David Morgan.

Brian Morrison led Division two with a creditable 68 with Bill Giles runner-up on 70.

Jack Phillips and David Price made 71 and the last prize went to Ken Beake on 72.

When it came to the presentation, seniors captain Bob Underwood claimed that the current financial climate had necessitated cutbacks and produced a large ball of green wool and a pair of knitting needles for the winner to knit his own!

We do not know whether Brian Morrison is up to the task, but we do congratulate him on an excellent win.
