Colyton Grammar School’s Under-19 Girls’ badminton team crowned Devon County Champions

Colyton Grammar School’s Under-19 Girls’ badminton team has become Devon County Champions, writes Nicole Thackray.

The girls played five matches against five different schools, eventually winning 23 out of a possible 25 games.

They saw off Plymouth College 4-1, Hele’s School 5-0, Exmouth Community College 4-1, Ivybridge College 5-0 and South Dartmoor College 5-0.

Next up the team will contest the regional finals where they will meet teams from Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset.

Team captain Ellen Fletcher said: “It was a great day and winning was all down to teamwork”.

She also paid tribute to PE teacher, Mrs Anne Harris, for her encouragement.

More success was recorded by the Under-16 Girls’ and Boys’ teams, both crowned East Devon Champions and now progressing to the Devon County Round.
