Colyton School girls’ Under-12 team are the Devon County champions.

The girls lifted the top honour at Feniton last week winning all five of the matches they played, conceding just a single goal!

The girls started their bid with a 1-0 win over Bideford thanks to an early goal from Anna Moroz. Maddie Walsh was solid in goal and made some excellent saves to deservedly keep a clean sheet.

Paignton and Devonport High were both also beaten 1-0 before a similar result against Coombeshead. Three times in this game Colyton hit the frame of the goal, the one score that counted was netted by Misha Taylor who pounced to tuck the ball away after a Moroz shot had been saved.

In the final game against Stoke Damerel, Colyton seemed to have gained in confidence from their four wins and played their best football of the day. Hannah Beglin and Rosie Lyall made some penetrating runs from midfield, linking well with Jenny Edwards and Bella Balian, who were playing as a strike pairing.

Caitlin Few and Hedi Hauskeller distributed the ball accurately out of defence and put in some strong tackles when needed as Colyton romped to a 4-1 triumph.

The girls were naturally absolutely delighted and very proud of their achievement.

Anna Moroz was the captain and she really did play exceptionally well throughout the day.

She showed excellent ball control and set up many attacks from her quick footwork and speed on the ball. She would have deserved ‘player of the tournament’ if it was awarded. A special mention must go to Sophie Jackson, Louise Duncan and Emma Hurst, all Year 12 Sports Leaders who have helped to coach the team in preparation for the County Competition. They have trained them throughout the season and have motivated them to improve their skills and develop their tactics in the game.

Well done to the whole squad - everyone played with real determination and showed superb team spirit.
