Colyton girls give tennis academy players a run for their money

Colyton Grammar’s U18 girls’ tennis team made it through the South West finals of the AEGON National Schools Tennis Competition, narrowly missing out on qualifying for the national finals.

The team, consisting of Lara Graney, Liberty Brown, Isabella Brown, Emma Hurst and Natasha Mejzner, beat Leweston, Sherborne and Truro schools without dropping a match along the way. This put them in the South West final where they were drawn against Talbot Heath Tennis Academy.

The girls put up a strong fight, but, ultimately, Talbot Heath were stronger, beating Colyton 6-0, but three out of the six matches went to match deciding tie-breaks.

“I was extremely proud of the all the players. The matches were very entertaining and the quality of tennis was very high. They were a credit to the school,” said Jackie Shute, Director of Sports at Colyton.
