Honiton 1st XI hold a 12 point lead at the top of the E Division East table with just four games left to play after they registered a 67-run win over Ottery St Mary 2nds.

Batting first, no fewer than eight of the Honiton batsmen got into double figures, but none topped the 27 from 44 balls scored by opener Pete Matravers and the ‘best of the rest’ was a knock of 23 from number six bat Andy Canniford as Honiton closed on 187-9 after their 45 overs.

However, the Ottery reply never got out of first gear as they lost wickets at regular intervals before being all out for 120.

Corey Lapping did the early damage, removing the first three Ottery batsmen on his way to figures of 4-36 and there were three wickets for Ian Kelly (3-8) and a brace for Alan Ostler (2-33).

On Saturday (August 11) Honiton entertain sixth placed Axminster.
