Honiton Hornets were worthy winners in this East Devon derby against a side who started the day sitting two places above them in Petroc League 1.
Recent training sessions have focussed on cutting out the early goals that Hornets had been conceding this season and the team made a positive start, bossing the early exchanges.
Jean Herniman and Lydia Cox both saw shots strike the frame of the visitors goal before the break. With regular central midfield players missing Katrina Tucker was given the task of playing in that important position and she revelled in the role.
After the break Hornets continued to press, but the visitors also carried a threat, though they got precious little joy out of the disciplined Hornets back line of Becky Bond, Sami Williams and Emily Weigersma.
The deadlock was broken when Becky Hammett intercepted an SOHC and moved the ball swiftly to Jean Herniman who got the ball early into the centre of the pitch. The final ball into the circle found Lydia Cox wide on the right of the goal from where she managed to weave her way round a defender before powering the ball home.
The Otters response was good, but Hornets goalkeeper Sue Stone was equal to their best efforts and fully deserved her clean sheet.
Hornets Player of the Match was Katrina Tucker with Lydia Cox and Becky Hammett also featuring highly in the voting.
