Cranbrook U16s moved to within a point of leaders Ottery St Mary after a five-star display against their title rivals.

Ottery, however, were left to rue a number of missed chances on the day, starting with a Seb Copp effort sent inches wide.

Cranbrook responded with a goal against the run of play on 18 minutes through George Wright and they doubled that advantage with a superbly executed lob from Shay Corrick.

A change of system from Ottery manager Addy Carpenter breathed new impetus into his side after the break but an extraordinary goal-line clearance to deny James Blain summed up their misfortune.

A killer third goal arrived via the boot of Kai Swann and, despite the Otters continuing to press, they found a Cranbrook custodian in fine form.

The win was given added gloss by late goals from Harvey Maddocks and Swann’s second. A fine victory for Cranbrook but the Otters will go again.
