It’s been a busy summer for the Cranbrook Arrows Netball Club, writes Helen Eke.
The Summer League campaign was certainly a hot one, with Monday night league matches being played at the Education Campus in the evening sunshine.
The Black Arrows team has done well, and finished mid-table. The other side, White Arrows, being a new team at the beginning of the season, have really developed as a team and have played some excellent netball.
The experience of the summer season will really set them up for the more competitive winter league at Honiton!
Both teams are now taking a well-deserved rest during the summer holidays before embarking on the winter league which begins in September.
The club also recently held its annual general meeting and, for the first time, awards were presented for player achievements. It was a great evening, and was an excellent way to celebrate the club and player’s progression and achievements over the past year.
July also saw the Cranbrook Arrows host their first Summer Netball Festival with no fewer than 10 local teams taking part in the event which was held at the Education Campus and it made for some competitive netball!
Students from Sidmouth College also offered their skills and did a fabulous job as umpires for all of the matches which was greatly appreciated.
It was a really excellent day, and coincided with the local Cranbrook Day activities at the Cranberry Farm.
Many local companies donated prizes for a raffle – thank you to Thrive, Michelmores, Jack in the Green, Grange Court Hotel, Portlantis and 1st Choice Finishes for their sponsorship of raffle prizes.
It was an extremely hot day, but all the teams entered in to the spirit of it and a great day was had by all. Local team HiQ took the winning trophy. £429.57 was raised for local charities Balloons and Devon Air Ambulance. Thank you to all teams that took part.
Cranbrook Arrows are very grateful for sponsorship from 1st Choice Finishes. The club train on Wednesday evenings 8-9pm at the campus. Please follow us on our Facebook page and get in touch if you have any questions.
