Crawford is top 12 bowler
At the end of last season Honiton bowler Liam Crawford, 15, won the South West area of the National School of Excellence. Last weekend Liam attended the national finals at Melton Mowbray, writes Roger Binmore.
All the players had to play three seven end matches in the morning, of which Liam won one and drew one.
In the afternoon session all competitors had to carry out a series of difficult tests scoring points as they progressed. At the end of proceedings Liam qualified as the 12th best under 15 in the country. Whilst Liam said he was very nervous during the day’s play, he was very happy with his achievement, sentiments shared by his Honiton BC fellow members.
Moving onto to Honiton’s matches, they had a local derby with Feniton. As Feniton does not have their own indoor rink Honiton won the game by 3 games to 1, the overall score being 87 shots to 59. Honiton’s best rink was David Tooley, Sid Hattam, Keith Parsons and Ann Hillyear winning 30 shots to 9.
Honiton played their second Over 60’s County Trophy against the much fancied Exonia club from Exeter. Honiton lost 3 rinks to 1 and the total scores of 67 to 91.
