Axminster skipper Paul Miller was not pleased with his side’s application in an eight wicket defeat to visiting Thorverton.

A below-par batting performance, with the only highlights being knocks of 30 from Dan Murnane and 20 from Rob Walker, left the Cloakham Lawn side looking to defend a total of 124.

That was clearly never enough as the Mid Devon men sailed to an eight wicket win.

Adding to the Miller woes was a whopping total of 40 extras’ that aided the visitors run chase!

Miller said: “It’s disappointing as we certainly did not bat very well. Conditions were not best for batting but that does not mean you shouldn’t look to try and conquer the elements. No one applied themselves particularly well to the task at hand. Then, with such a low score to defend we shot ourselves in the foot with an extra’s count of 40! There’s not a lot we can do about it as we have a small squad this term and changes are not an option. However, what we can do is apply ourselves to out individual jobs and if everybody looks to improve considerably on this outing, we’ll quickly get back on track.”

On Saturday Axminster travel to Hatherleigh.
