Axminster’s two points can’t keep them out of the relegation berths

Axminster could only muster two points from their B Division home meeting with Tavistock and, as a result, have slipped into a worrying bottom tweo berth in the section.

The visitors batted first and close on 239-3.

Skipper Paul Miller led the reply with a defiant 37 and Ben Libby was unbeaten on 23 when stumps were drawn with the reply 117-6.

On Saturday Miller’s men entertain fourth bottom Alphington and if they were to lose to the Exeter side they would be stuck very much in a relegation scrap at the foot of the table.

Axminster II were in action for just half a dozen overs in their game at Uplyme and Lyme Regis Ii where the hosts were 12 without loss when rain arrived to wash play away. On Saturday they make the short trip to Feniton.

Axminster III were beaten by nine wickets by Topsham St James II. Sam Dibling (25) and Emily Broad (19) were the principle scorers for the hosts in a total of 69 all out.

The visitors hurried to a nine wicket win with Zac Harwood the one successful Axminster bowler.

Axminster will look to win at the eighth time of asking when they host Seaton II on Saturday.
