Batey serves up match-winning all-round effort for Uplyme and Lyme Regis

Uplyme & Lyme Regis produced the result of the day as they eased past early season E Division table toppers Shaldon, beating them by seven wickets.

Steve Batey served up the all-round match-winning performance with wickets and runs whilst skipper Ashley Caddy was once again at the forefront of things for his side with a fine knock of 49.

Batey claimed 3-28 as Shaldon were bowled out for 136, passed with ease, thanks to that 49 from the skipper and an unbeaten 44 from Batey.

The two added 95 for the third wicket before Caddy was dismissed with the winning line in sight.

A delighted skipper said: “We deserved it as we really did bowl well. Testament to the way the bowlers went about their work is the fact that Steve’s three wicket haul was the biggest, the other wickets were shared around. With a relatively low run chase it then became a comfortable afternoon. We are in form, that’s our third straight win of the season and, given that we won the last ten of last season, we now have a stretch of 13 straight wins under our belt.”

Caddy’s team, who sit second in the table, chase a 14th consecutive triumph at Upottery on Saturday.

Uplyme & Lyme Regis 2nds were well beaten at Exeter III.

Mike Holding claimed 2-42 as Exeter powered their way to 250-6 declared.

Eddie Clarke was the only batsmen to make much impression in the reply which lasted just 22.2 overs with the final wicket falling on 43. On Saturday Uplyme & Lyme Regis entertain Upottery.
