Feniton skipper speaks after crushing by Ottery: ‘On the day, the best team won’

Feniton skipper Jon Pyle was very honest when he spoke after his side’s 10-wicket defeat at home to Ottery St Mary.

He said: “I won the toss and it’s likely that, hindsight being a wonderful thing, I got it wrong. At the time of the toss I thought it looked a decent track to bat on and, while it was overcast at the start, the sun was breaking through.”

He continued: “In truth we did not bat well, a number of lads got in and were unable to make a start into what we have needed all season, which is big individual contributions. We really ought to have been looking at 25 plus batting first, but having said that, the way they, and particularly their superb Aussie [Oliver West] went about the run chase, even a 300 score would not have scared them!”

As for the season so far with the campaign now through one-third of its time, Pyle says: “There’s no doubt this is a tough league. With the likes of Sidmouth and Exeter 2nds and a classy Ottery side, there are no easy games and we are going to have to dig deep to stick at it. We should be all right; the spirit in the dressing room is good. I have no worries on that score.”

On Saturday Feniton go to Whimple. Pyle says: “That is going to be another tough game. They [Whimple] are going well and I am sure we will need to be on our game to come home with the result we want.”
