Alex Frankpitt put bat to ball with great effect as Feniton recorded a resounding 71-run Acland Park victory over Clyst Hydon.
Home skipper Jon Pyle won the toss and opted to bat and his top order managed to see off the threat of the visiting Sri Lankan paceman before taking on the rest of the Clyst Hydon bowling.
Sean Devine, batting at number three, finished unbeaten on 87, but the undoubted star of then show was Frankpitt who came to the wicket with just 14 overs to go and proceeded to power the ball to all corners of the Acland Park pitch on his way to an unbeaten 91 off just 48 balls. He and Devine added 137 for the unbroken fifth wicket, seeing the home side to a commanding 279-4 at tea. Adam Ramcharran (40) and Mark Kingdom (24), were other batsman to contribute to the cause.
Clyst Hydon’s reply saw wickets fall at regular intervals with Matt Davies claiming three wickets for 36 runs. The other wickets fell to skipper Pyle (2-22), his father Francis (2-48) and Mark Kingdom (2-58).
The final visiting wicket fell with the score on 208.
A delighted Pyle said: “It was another superb all-round show. The atmosphere in the dressing room is so good this season and all the players are chasing the same thing. We batted well – the knock of Alex (Frankpitt) was exceptional, he and Sean (Devine) took control and effectively won us the game.”
As for the last seven games of the season, starting with Saturday’s home meeting with Barnstaple and Pilton, Pyle says: “We can only win each game as it comes up. Keep on winning is what I say to my lads.”
