Honiton were edged out by three wickets in a low scoring affair at Shaldon Optimists.
Tom Strawbridge struck a fine 65 and Pete Matravers chipped in with 22 as Honiton laboured to 130.
That seemingly low total was very nearly sufficient to win the game as skipper Adam Holmes took 4-38 and Rob Ingram bagged a brace with the South Devon side edging home with just three wickets to spare.
Next up for Holmes and his side is a Mountbatten Park visit from an Ashburton side that sit fifth, two places and 34 points better off than Honiton.
Honiton 2nds continue to find life difficult in the 2nd XI C Division and their 141-run defeat to Bideford II was their eighth reversal in nine games this season.
