Honiton Cricket Club go into the new season with new hope and optimism.

As well as a big reshuffle off the field which has seen a lot of positive things happening, a number of new signings and returning players means that there will be competition for places on the field and there is a real sense of anticipation of the club teams being competitive in both 1st and 2nd X1 leagues.

The club has secured new main club sponsors, with Norcotts Cider and Combe Estate Sponsoring the senior sides. There’s also new sponsors for the youth section who will be sponsored by AWP Exeter.

Mr Richard Marker from Combe Estate is happy to again be connected with the club.

He said: “Combe Estate are pleased to sponsor Honiton Cricket Club’s senior team as part of our continued commitment to supporting sport and activities in the Honiton area. We wish Honiton Cricket Club a successful season in all competitions.”

Chris Norcott of Norcott Cider echoed those sentiments when he said: “We have supported Honiton for a couple years now, but are now delighted to be one of their main sponsors and look forward to being part of their future success.”

Club chairman Andrew lapping is also the 2nd XI skipper and he is looking forward to the season getting underway.

He said: “We have had a busy few months at the club, having under achieved in all departments of the club on and off the field for a couple years now, but I do sense a new feel good factor sweeping through the club. We have a new committee who are working hard off the field and so it’s down to the guys on the field to deliver, all the new players have settled in well and everyone is enjoying being part of a happy club once more.”

1st X1 skipper Rob Ingram is also looking forward to the campaign. He said: “Last year was a tough time trying to get sides together, which meant that we didn’t compete as we would of wanted to. However, five new signings plus a couple lads that have been missing for a couple seasons now returning to the fold, will bring competition for places and hopefully better results for us”.

As well as the full Tolchards Devon League programme for this season the club has filled most Sundays with friendly matches. They have also entered the new Honiton/Upottery Last Man Standing league, which is a new version of the 20/20 game. The club will also once again play in the Corinthian Cup 20/20 Competition.

Anyone interested in playing, scoring umpiring or just being a social member of the club should call chairman Andrew Lapping 07792 368824 or first team skipper Rob Ingram 07795 278870.
