Honiton captain Rob Ingram is unambiguous about his plans for the season ahead in the E Division East, writes Conrad Sutcliffe.

After relegation last season, Honiton are in the bottom division this season, renamed the D Division East as part of regionalisation.

With five new players on board – all from arch rivals Feniton – Ingram doesen’t intend to linger long in the D Division.

“Our aim is to get out of this division at the first attempt and I will be disappointed if we don’t” said Ingram.

The Feniton five are Brian Cann, Adrian Pullin, Jake Smith, Will Cleal and Ben Kidson.

For Cann it is a case of coming home as he is a former Honiton skipper. He is also a proven run-getter in the lower divisions.

“The prospect of Brian opening up with Kevin Kelly this season is exciting for us and worrying for our opponents,” said Ingram. “I can see a lot of runs there.”

Ingram isn’t alone among lower division captains about being cool about the regionalisation introduced in this season.

Honiton are away to Cheriton Fitzpaine this Saturday, yet won’t be playing teams closer to home.

“It does seem a bit odd that we have to drive past five clubs closer to us but in the West division to get to Cheriton,” said Ingram.

For the record the clubs are Exwick, Clyst St George, Woodbury, Topsham and Countess Wear.
