An unbeaten knock of 69 from opener Dave Haysom guided Honiton to a four wicket win over Clyst Hydon.

It was the first victory of the season for Honiton having lost their season opening game against Upottery last week.

Clyst Hydon won the toss and elected to bat. Sinthuran Thevaraj and Robert Randall put on an opening partnership of 35 before Thevaraj was run out by Dave Haysom.

A period of three wickets in 34 runs gave Honiton something to work with and they eventually dismissed the hosts for 137 after 39.2 overs.

Now in the pads, Haysom was a tough nut to crack in the Honiton batting line-up. He remained unbeaten as his teammates fell around him.

Fellow opener Andrew Lapping was trapped lbw for five before Clyst Hydon's Chris Holmes took the next four wickets.

Willy Graham stepped up to the crease and put on a 65 run partnership to put Honiton within touching distance of victory.

Man of the match Haysom saw them over the line as his team clinched the win.

On Saturday, May 18, Honiton will travel to second bottom Budleigh Salterton 2nds looking to make it two wins from three.
