Archant

Whimple bowler Phil Hope served up a sensational spell in his side’s Francis Clark Devon League E Division game at home to Kentisbeare.

Hope was given the new ball by skipper Ben Silk and bowled in tandem with Jibu Varghese at the opposite end.

Such was the strangle hold that Hope, in particular, had on the early proceedings that his nine over spell saw just a single scoring shot taken off it!

He finished with the stunning figures of nine overs, eight maidens and claimed two wickets for four runs!

It was however, all in a losing cause as Kentisbeare recovered from the vice-like grip the home openers had applied to reach a respectable 213-9 answered by Whimple’s disappointing 110 all out.
