Hovell heroics can’t stop Yarcombe slipping to second defeat of the season.

PUBLISHED: 12:30 21 June 2011

Despite the heroics with ball and then bat by Simon Hovell, Yarcombe slipped off E Division top spot.

Yarcombe were involved in one of just two F Division games to beat the weather but they tasted defeat for just the second time this term, beaten by 26 runs at Topsham St James.

The hosts batted first and were bowled out for 131 thanks mainly to the combination of Simon Hovell (4-9) and Rex Helston (4-32).

Hovell then underpinned the run chase, hitting a splendid 54 but once he departed so ended any Yarcombe victory hopes and they were eventually bowled out for 105.

This Saturday Yarcombe are at home to Newton St Cyres.
