Chardstock made a sensational start to their Tolchards Devon League D Division East campaign when they bowled Sandford 2nds out for a meagre 28.

What makes that all out score so remarkable is that the opposition are the 2nd XI of a Premier Division side!

Chardstock were put in to bat and there may have been some concern in the visitors ranks with Tom Warren and Rob Hutchings both back in the Creedy Park pavilion with only 20 on the board.

However, skipper Gary Larcombe and wicket keeper Steve Allsopp took the total to 80 before the skipper was sent back, having posted what would be his side’s top score of 45. James Pyman failed to trouble the scorers and Allsopp departed for 14, leaving the visitors 98-5. However, a 42 run partnership between Alex Watrson (36) and Richard Pyman (23), saw Uplyme and Lyme Regis to 140-6. The tail added another 20 and, at tea, Larcombe must have been wondering if his side had enough on the board.

However, it proved to be more than enough as not one Sandford batsmen reached double figures with Rob Hutchings being the star of the show as he sent down six overs, two of which were maidens, and claimed five wickets for just eight runs!

Fellow opening bowler Alex Watson also sent down six overs and he bagged a brace of wickets for 15 runs. James Pyman bowled just the one over, but claimed a double wicket maiden and the other wicket was snared by Richard Pyman (1-4) as Sanford were bundled out for 28 in one ball shy of 14 overs!

On Saturday (May 12) Chardstock begin their home league campaign with a home game against Clyst St George.
