Neither Kilmington side could muster a win in their respective games on the second Saturday of June.

Kilmington were edged out by a margin of just 10 runs at Tiverton and Bickleigh.

Matt Rockett was the most successful of the bowlers as the Mid Devon side, batting first, closed on 228-7. Young Rockett claimed 3-47.

Tom Gooding (50) and Dave Cook (45) then led the run chase which got to within 11 runs of victory when the final wicket fell in 218 to consign Kilmington to a fourth defeat in six E Division games this season.

On Saturday Kilmington host fourth placed Kentisbeare who sit immediately above them in the table.

Kilmington 2nd XI were denied victory by a stubborn Axminster III side. Skipper Ash Cook (53) and knocks of 49no by Jim Smart and 47 from Graham Watts led Kilmington to 234-8. Axminster then laboured their way though their overs to a close of 119-5. Kilmington skipper Ash Cook lamented: “It was not very inspiring cricket. We batted well, but then could not take sufficient wickets, hard to do against such defensive batting.”

Kilmington are third in the E Division East 2nd XI table and next up they travel to Cullompton II who sit three places and 21 points worse off in the table.
