Ottery St Mary head into the half way stage of the season sat in a D Division promotion berth but they were unable to see off the tail enders of visiting basement dwellers, Whitchurch, who closed on 171-8 in reply to the Otters 210-8.

Mark Woodman was the star of the show for the East Devon side with an unbeaten knock of 41 from the number nine berth whilst the bulk of the earlier runs came from Matt Kirk with a fine 57.

Rob Johns (3-25) and that man Woodman (3-34) were the main wicket takers in the visitor’s stubborn reply.

Ottery St Mary II were six wicket winners at Clyst Hydon II where Zac Johns claimed a fivefer and Keith Biggs bagged another three wicket haul. Johns (5-22) and Biggs (3-39) combined to see the home side bowled out for 166.

Rob Crabb then continued his exceptional form with the bat with yet another half century, this time hitting an unbeaten 63 and Alex Thurgate chipped in with 26 as victory was achieved at 167-4.
