Perry sparkles as Axminster land that elusive first win

Axminster II certainly found the number 13 good luck for them as they claimed their first Francis Clark League victory of the season, at the thirteenth time of trying, beating Thorverton II by six wickets at Cloakham Lawns.

The visitors batted first and posted a reasonable 233-7.

Alan Ostler sent down eleven excellent overs, returning figures of 3-47 whilst Dan Fuzzard took 2-28.

The post-tea session was dominated by a simply magnificent innings from Sean Perry who smashed eleven 6s and nine 4s on his way to an unbeaten 121 as Axminster raced to a six wicket win inside 33 overs!

Michael Wakeley (52) and Dan Murnane (14no) also made contributions.

Axminster II skipper Peter Kai said: “It’s been a long wait for the first win and we certainly enjoyed the moment. Sean’s innings was class, he struck the ball very sweetly. It turned out to be a great day for the Club with the third team also winning. It’s been along time since Cloakham Lawns has been able to celebrate double delight on a Saturday night!”
