Great Daye for Seaton as new man Ryan makes his mark

Four wickets from the club’s new overseas player, Australian Ryan Daye, helped Seaton to their second win in as many games as they beat Brixham by 90 runs, writes Sam Cooper.Daye, who also opened the batting for Seaton, proved in good form at the crease. He, alongside fellow opener Matthew Hewer, put on a strong partnership to establish a big lead.
Hewer carried his bat throughout the innings, ending on 63 while Daye was run out by Dhananjaya Lakshan just two runs short of his half century.
Dan Bullock and Bradley McKee combined well to dismiss the next five batsmen.
Joel Seward, the batting hero from Seaton's win against Bovey Tracey 2nds last week, was trapped lbw on one by Bullock.
The team ended the 45 overs on 182-6 which was catchable for Brixham but the strong bowling attack of Seaton made life very hard for the hosts.
The openers Tim Robinson and Lakshan were out for a combined score of 13 as Ben Libby worked his way through the top order. He dismissed Lakshan, Bullock and Adam Edwards whilst only conceding 16 runs.
With the top order firmly dislodged, Daye was introduced into the attack.
Brixham wicketkeeper Nathan Way was the first to fall to Daye. He clipped the ball into the grateful hands of Michael Double.
Daye then set about removing the tailenders. Rob Champness, Lee Upham and McKee all fell to the bowling of Daye before Kersley Sutton removed Matt Parsons for the final wicket of the day.
It capped a resounding win for Seaton who now sit second in the Tolchard Devon Cricket League B Division table behind Plymstock.
Up next for the team is a home game against fourth placed Cullompton on Saturday, May 18, who have won one and lost one so far this season.
