Seaton CC have gained the services of Joel Seward and Robbie Prior, both from Axminster for the forthcoming season.

Seward leaves Axminster after scoring 623 runs at an average of just over 69 last season having been with them since the age of 10, making his 1s XI debut at the age of 14. He has played for every Devon age group between the ages of 14 and 21 and spent a couple of seasons (2010 – 2012) with Chard.

On his switch to Seaton, Seward said: “With the new league format structure regarding regionalisation it was a no brainer for me to join such a big club like Seaton who seem to have a strong intention to climb the ladder in the Devon League. Over the past couple of seasons I have played a few friendlies at Court Lane and loved it each time I have played there. I would like to thank Axminster for all their help and wish them all the best for the up and coming season.”

Prior joins Seaton having made only a few appearances for Axminster last year as he recovered from knee surgery. The season before he played a big role in Axminster’s promotion to the B Division.

Prior joined Axminster at the age of 10 and played for all their youth and senior teams before becoming a regular opening bowler for their 1st XI. He has also played for Dorset at youth level and spent a season in Melbourne in 2012 scoring three centuries and taking 24 wickets. Prior, currently travelling in Canada, said of his move to Seaton: “I have been best friends with 1st XI captain Ben Morgan for 15 years and I believe the only time we played cricket together was at school so I am very much looking forward to being on the same side as him. I am excited about a new challenge and I believe Seaton can put up a strong challenge this season. I have had a great time playing for Axminster for the last 14 years and would like to wish them all the best for the season.”

Seaton 1st XI captain Ben Morgan, clearly delighted to secure the services of the pair said: “Growing up with Joel and Robbie and playing with them for Axminster under 17’s and at school, I know that they are two very good players and have performed at a very good level. The restructuring of the leagues means we are playing in the C Division this term whereas last year we were playing in the D and the lads will bring huge experience and quality to the side and I am looking forward to walking out onto the pitch with them both. We are all really looking forward to the up and coming season at Seaton.”

Meanwhile, the club are always keen to welcome new people, be it as a player, scorer, umpire or even simply social membership support.
