Honiton are up into second place in the E Division after they clinically despatched bottom of the tale Woodbury, beating the visiting side by 83 runs.

Adam Homes (50), George Meadows (32), Tom Strawbridge (31) and Joe Dixon (30) led their side to a declaration at 208-8.

Only Tim Greenslade made much of an impression in the post-tea session with 30 as Phil Tansley claimed yet another fivefer haul, finishing with figures of 5-30 as Woodbury were bundled out for 115. Skipper Kev Kelly said: “That was a solid performance with bat and ball. Batting was not easy but then nor was bowling and we did both with great style. It’s a tight Division and we are where we want to be, up amongst the leading lights.”

Next up is a small matter of an East Devon derby at Upottery and, with the home side the only outfit to sit above Kelly’s men in the table, the winners of the match will sit top of the tree after week seven of the eighteen week season.

Honiton II were five wicket winners over hosts Axminster III. Sixteen year old Matthew Winn top scored for the Cloakham Lawns side with 71 and there was a rare appearance for the side from club chairman John Isles who hit 16 and John Swain chipped in with a knock of 22. Richard Hill claimed 4-52 for the visitors who were led to a five wicket victory by Nathan Groves (78) and Ollie Cave (71). Jamie Barfoot took three of the visiting wickets to fall, finishing with 3-33. On Saturday the 2nd XI are without a league game.
