A magnificent century from Rob Tasker helped Upottery to a thrilling 15 run victory in their Tolchards Devon League D Division East home game against Barnstaple and Pilton.

After being invited to bat first, the home side lost Simon Durrant (1), Matt Broom (6) and Michael Arscott (1) and were a worrying 29-3 when Rob Tasker went out to join James Mitchum.

The pair soon began to influence proceedings to such a degree that when they were eventually parted the Upottery score had risen to 215. Tasker became the fourth wicket to fall, but not before he had registered a wonderful ton, scoring 123 with 13 fours and six sixes.

Ryan Pulman was next man in – and out – failing to trouble the scorers and it was left to Kalann Nessling (3no) to join Mitcham, who was not out 67, having hit six fours and two sixes as Upottery’s innings ended on 222-5 after their 45 overs.

Barum made a great fist of the run chase and got close with just 16 runs between the teams at stumps. However, Upottery deserved the win as they bowled well when the pressure was on. Mitcham completed a fine all-round shift with 1-43 from nine overs and those were also the figures returned by Lee Nessling while the other Upottery wicket taker was Ryan Pulman (1-38 from six overs) as the Barum run chase came up short on 206-3 after their 45 overs.

On Saturday (May 12), Upottery head into Exeter to meet Countess Wear.
