The Devon Association of Cricket Officials (DACO) is in urgent need of new umpires.
Chris Shelton, DACO education officer, says: “In order to maintain our current ability to officiate in the Premier, A and B Devon Cricket League matches we need to train up more umpires.”
He continued: “In October 2017, the MCC updated and re-issued the Laws of Cricket, and along with these changes ECB /ACO developed new courses for new umpires.
“There are two courses for new umpires. Stage 1 is designed for those who just want to be qualified club umpires. Stage 2 is designed for those who have taken Stage 1, and enables them to be placed on the Devon Cricket League Panel, if they wish.
“The courses we ran this spring involved two morning sessions for each course, of no more than four hours.
“It is necessary to take both courses to become a panel umpire.”
Stage 1 and Stage 2 cost £30 each, and are PowerPoint presentations with as much candidate participation as possible.
You will receive all course materials necessary when you start the course. Also, membership of Devon Association of Umpires is part of the package for each course, which gives members insurance cover for any game they stand in, which is over and above club insurance.
