Uplyme and Lyme Regis made a losing start to their Tolchards League D Division East campaign as they went down by seven wickets at Clyst St George.
Skipper Mark Brimmacombe won the toss at Bohea Field and opted to bat first and, after the early loss of Charlie Moss (5) and Eddie Clarke (3), the skipper and Tyler Wellman took the score to 71 when Brimmacombe was bowled – that one of seven wickets to fall to clean bowled! The skipper scored 22 and that was bettered only by the 37 from the bat of young Wellman who hit five fours and a six.
However, after number five bat Tim Daniel posted a score of 16, the remaining six batsmen accumulated just 16 between them as Lyme Regis slipped from 106-3to 144 all out after 43.3 overs.
Neil Price claimed an early wicket to leave the hosts 33-1 – Mark Brimmacombe taking the catch – but the only other visiting bowlers to enjoy any success were Tyler Wellman, courtesy of an Eddie Jones catch, and Ben Jones, who hit the stumps.
The home side needed just 22.1 overs to sail home, leaving Uplyme and Lyme Regis to return home and look to kick-start their league season on matchday two (May 12) when they host Sandford IIs who were bowled out for 28 by Chardstock in their opening game.
