Uplyme and Lyme Regis began the new Tolchards Devon League season with a seven wicket success at Barnstaple and Pilton.

Uplyme were always in the driving seat after dismissing Barum for 108 in the 32nd over.

Matt Clarke made 28, but the only other double-figure scores came from Paul Schiller (18no) and Jamie Tapp (12). Losing the fourth, fifth and sixth wickets on 57 didn’t help the cause.

There were three wickets each for Uplyme bowlers Rhys Davies and Paddy Barraclough, who both took two in two but couldn’t complete hat-tricks.

Uplyme needed 28 overs to knock of the runs and were made to work for their win.

Youngster Jack Moore’s five overs only cost three runs and earned him a wicket.

Ryan Halloran (35) made the early runs then Steve Batey (28no) took Uplyme the rest of the way.
