Uplyme and Lyme Regis suffered a first defeat of the season when beaten at home by Alphington.

The Exeter side batted first and were held to what looked a below-par total of 158-8. Paddy Barraclough took 4-23 from eight exceptional overs and Rhys Davies bagged a brace of wickets.

However, the Uplyme reply never got out of first gear as they were bundled out for 80 with only opener Jed Whittington (21) and number three Richard O’Hallaran (11) into double figures!

It was even worse for the club’s 2nd XI who were crushed by Countess Wear, beaten by a margin of six wickets in a contest that saw them bowled out for just 52! Eddie Clarke top scored with 22. Dave Norman took all four of the Countess Wear wickets to fall in the successful run chase.

This coming Saturday (May 23) the 1st XI travel to table-topping Ottery St Mary whilst the 2nds host North Devon III.
