Whimple finished as runners-up to Exeter at the East Devon Youth League County Sports Under-15s Finals Day held at Bradninch, writes Stephen Birley.

With Ottery St Mary announcing that they were pulling out of the four-team Finals Day as late as 7pm the night before, it was hastily agreed to play a round-robin involving the other three teams, Exeter, Whimple and Sandford.

The late withdrawal, of Ottery St Mary was most unfortunate as Sandford still turned up despite the fact they were missing five regulars and had made their team up with younger players from their club and thus were always on a hiding to nothing, particularly against a side as strong as the one Exeter CC fielded!

Whimple comfortably despatched a young Sandford with Callum Lefebvre taking four wickets in four balls!

Young Lefebvre was named ‘Bowler of the Day’ and will be presented with an award at the Youth League Presentation Evening.

Whimple and Exeter were both commended by Umpire Derek Taylor for the way they conducted themselves against a Sandford side that was clearly extremely young, but they gave it their all and contributed much to a good day of cricket action.
