Whimple suffer secodn league defeat of season

Whimple suffered a second defeat in three outings and suddenly, their once vice-like grip on the D Division East title is now a fragile one with Cullompton sitting second, just three points behind them at the top of the table.

Whimples’ second defeat of the league season came at the hands of a Tiverton side for whom skipper Jason Parr struck a double century!

The game saw an extraordinary 645 runs for just a dozen wickets with Whimple ultimately beaten by a margin of just 11 runs

The Mid Devon side racked up a huge total of 328-6, but that did not deter Whimple who set about completing what would have been a stunning run chase!

Skipper Henry Gordon-Lennox was once again amongst the runs, top scoring with a knock of 81. David Culshaw hit an unbeaten 65 whilst Duncan McConachie (48), Mike Searle (46) and Will Bardot (34no) also played big parts in a chase that fell agonisingly short.

Whimple have six to play starting with Saturday’s visit to Kilmington. After that they host Halberton and Sampford Peverell before what is looking increasingly like a title decider, the visit of Cullompton on August 8.

The last three Whimple outings take them to Honiton and Chardstock before a final home game against Cheriton Fitzpaine.
