Axminster II moved off the bottom of the 2nd XI C Division table for the first time since May when they defeated Clyst Hydon on their Mid Devon pitch by six wickets.

Matthew Pile (4-27) and Tom Maxwell (3-48) combined to bowl the home side out for 158.

Michael Wakeley then struck a superb 790 and skipper Peter Kay chipped in with 26 as the Axemen got home with six wickets and plenty of overs to spare.

With four to play Kay’s men sit second bottom, 39 points shy of third bottom Thorverton.

They travel to Barnstaple and Pilton on Saturday then have back to back home games with Cornwood III and new basement dwellers Ivybridge II before completing the season on the final day at Ipplepen.
