Offwell Rangers were 2-1 winners when they met the fledgling table toppers Winkleigh.

Steve Curry fired Rangers into an early lead with a powerful strike. That goal proved to be the only one of a closely contested first half. After the break the home side levelled, but Rangers were not to be denied and a superb header from Curry won the game for his side.

Rangers boss Scott Phillips said: “We were much better then the previous week and fully deserved the points. We began the second half far too slowly and that saw them (Awliscombe) level things up. We came back well and the result lifts us top of the table. There’s a long season ahead and leagues are never won in September, but it all represents a confident start to the season.”

New signing Dave Richards was named the Rangers Man of the Match.
